Memo from The President
According to Wikipedia, “a New Year's resolution is a commitment that an individual makes to a project or the reforming of a habit, often a lifestyle change that is generally interpreted as advantageous. The name comes from the fact that these commitments normally go into effect on New Year's Day.”
I suppose you could make the resolution at anytime but for some reason, it’s popular to start at 1/1 or January 1st. For myself, I’ve made a resolution to keep a better eye on my finances. I used to be very diligent with my money but somehow got out of the habit after my daughter was born. It seemed enough to be mama, chief cook & bottle washer, great wife? (anybody reading this?), piano tuner without having to be financial wizard, too. However, we’ve all learned the hard way that we need to be responsible for our own future, financial or otherwise. We’ve also learned that the experts also can make mistakes. Oh well.
I’m putting aside a little money for the PNW Conference and for the convention in Las Vegas in June. I’ve already bought my $100.00 round-trip ticket to Seattle so that I won’t change my mind even after my car needs $4,000.00 worth of work.
BTW, Wikipedia also states the success rate as follows – “Recent research shows that while 52% of participants in a resolution study were confident of success with their goals, only 12% actually achieved their goals. Men achieved their goal 22% more often when they engaged in goal setting, a system where small measurable goals are used (lose a pound a week, instead of saying "lose weight"), while women succeeded 10% more when they made their goals public and got support from their friends.”
So, I’m counting on you, my friends, to give me your support.
Happy New Year!

There is no meeting in March so that EVERYONE can attend the conference in Bellevue, WA.
In April we will be meeting at Precision Piano, in North Hollywood. Franco will be giving a technical that will involve some of his current work, which may include a very interesting rebuild on an old Kranich & Bach. He advises everyone to come early as there will be a fine spread.
Attention New members: If you have never attended a PTG meeting THIS is the one to attend. Franco's shop is exceptional, the food is always great and plentiful, and the atmosphere is always good for getting to know your fellow PTG tech members.

The Colburn School, Los Angeles |
 Kevin Stock
In February we had the rare privilege of being able to visit The Colburn School in Downtown Los Angeles. Kevin Stock, Director of Piano Technology at the school, gave us brief personal history as well as a tour of the facility and his working studio. In Thayer Hall we were then presented with a short, but incredibly brilliant recital by two students of the school. The Colburn School is very much a high end college campus and operates like a large organized community.
